GRDP FAQs

1. Who are eligible for GRDP funding?

All graduate students in Virginia Tech who are enrolled in full time, and were not granted GRDP for the previous cycle are eligible to apply.

2. Can the GRDP fund be used to conduct research at somewhere else?

NO, research must be conducted at Virginia Tech.

3. Can the GRDP fund be used to attend conference?

NO, please apply travel funding for conference purpose.

4. When is the application due?

The GRDP applications for cycle 1 are due on Oct 9th. The GRDP applications for cycle 2 are due on Feb 26th.

5. What do I need to submit for the GRDP application?

You need to submit one completed application form, (if necessary, another supporting document). You also need one recommendation letter from your adviser. All the application materials need to be submitted through the VT scholar.

6. Where can I find the application form?

The GRDP application form can be downloaded from the GSA-GRDP website by clicking on the following link: http://www.gsa.uusa.vt.edu/programs/research_program or In the VT scholar system, under the “resources” tab.

7. Can I submit the application through Email?

No, submission through email is not accepted. All applications have to be submitted through the VT Scholar system. No applications will be considered if submitted otherwise.

8. Is there a requirement that my files be named?

YES, your application from file should be named as “PID_Department.pdf” or “PID_Department.doc”, with your pid replacing “PID”, and your department name replacing “Department” (e.g., “mary_CS.pdf”). The supporting file should be named as “PID_Department_2.pdf” or “PID_Department_2.doc”

9. Do you accept file type other than .pdf or .doc?

NO, only .pdf or .doc file will be accepted, (.pdf is preferred).

10. How do I upload my application in the drop box?

11. Can I make changes to my submitted applications?

You can modify and re-load your application any time before the application deadline. Please note, any changes made in the submitted application after the deadline date may result in subsequent disqualification of your application.

12. When do I suppose to get the feedback for my application?

The GRDP award decision will be made by the end of the Fall 2009 and Spring 2010 term. You will be notified by campus email about the final result of your application.

13. How do I know the current status of the application process?

The status of each individual application will not be revealed until the final decision is made. Please check the “Announcement” for the general evaluation process.

14. How do I collect the fund if my application is successful?
